PLOWING EXPERTISE SHARED

Throughout the more than 50-year history of the World Plowing Match, Canada has produced only two home-grown world champions, both of whom hailed from the Caledon community in Peel. The late Jim Eccles was the first plowmen to be awarded top-world honours in 1953, with Cheltenham-area farmer Bill Dixon bringing the honours back home to Canada only a few years later. Recently, Dixon, third from left, shared some of his expertise with keen, young plowmen at a coaching clinic at the Wright family farm, along with Doug Reid, an official plowing judge. Shown, left to right: Carly Wright, Reid, Dixon, Brent Piercey, Brandon Snell and Eric Early. The young people were fine-tuning their skills in preparation for the upcoming Peel-Dufferin Plowing Match, which is being held Thursday, Sept. 7 at the farm of Bill Hewson, 12700 McLaughlin Rd.
