Crash of planes still under investigation
By ALAN LICZYK Staff Reporter

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is continuing its investigation into the crash of two small planes that claimed the lives of three people Aug. 4 near Willoughby Road in Caledon.

Rae Simpson, the investigator in charge from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, told the Citizen a Cessna 172 from Brampton Flying Club collided in midair with a Cessna 182 that was privately owned out of Burlington.

The two men killed in the plane from Brampton Flying Club were Ryan Sumere, 28, of Mississauga, and Vinoo Abraham, 26, of Mississauga.

Simpson explained Sumere was an instructor and Abraham his student, but he doesn't know who was flying the plane at the time of the collision. He added they were returning to Brampton Flying Club from Orangeville after undergoing a training exercise.

The man killed in the other plane was David Norton, 57, of Burlington. Simpson said he was flying to Parry Sound.

The Friday crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. The planes went down about one kilometre from each other in fields off Willoughby Road, north of Charleston Sideroad. The plane with the two Mississauga men was found farther south than the other plane.

This is what remains of a Cessna 172 that crashed Aug. 4 in a field on Willoughby Road.
Caledon OPP, Alton, Caledon and Mono Mills firefighters, plus Peel Emergency Medical Services crews responded to the scene immediately.

Simpson said the Transportation Safety Board of Canada is in the process of gathering information and looking at the wreckage to see what they can get from that. The board will also look at the general environment of the area to see if there's a risk there and it will contact people who were involved at the two airports the planes came from.
