OPP contract is amended The existing agreement between Community Safety and Correctional Services, Peel region and the Town of Caledon for police services in Caledon was recently amended by Caledon council to incorporate the increase in officers resulting from the provincial initiative known as Safer Communities 1,000 Officers Partnership. Under the amending agreement, the Caledon detachment will add one sergeant and five constables. Four of these officers are constables funded through the Safer Communities 1,000 Officers Partnership. The provincial government will fund 50 per cent of the cost of the four constables, up to a cap of $35,000 for each officer per year, from April 1, 2006, to March 31, 2008. Inspector Andy Karski, detachment commander of Caledon OPP, told council the provincial government will review in 2008 whether to extend the funding. He added the new officers have been hired and will be delivered at the end of August. |
