Victim Services volunteers praised for assisting those affected by plane crash Traffic Caledon OPP officers responded to fifteen-property damage and five personal injury collisions during the week of July 31 to Aug. 7. Road Closure Regional Road 50, between King Street and Mill Street (downtown core of Bolton) will be closed to all traffic Friday, Aug. 18, starting at 4 p.m. The roadway will re-open Saturday, Aug. 19 at 1:30 a.m. The road closure is due to the Bolton mid-summer Midnight Madness, a family street festival. Recommended detour for truck traffic will be Mayfield Road west to Gore Road, north to Old Church Road, east back to Regional Road 50. Recommended detour route for vehicle traffic is King Street, east to Mill Street, which wraps around to Regional Road 50 to continue northbound. High Miler of the Week Monday, July 31, at approximately 3:37 p.m., a Caledon OPP officer observed a motor vehicle traveling at an extreme high rate of speed on The Gore Road near Patterson Sideroad in Caledon. Twenty-eight-year-old Bryan MacFarlane of Orangeville was charged with Speeding-132 km-h in a 70-km-h posted zone. Court date for the charge is set for Sept. 7. Break & Enter Monday, July 31, a trailer at a Winston Churchill Blvd. location was entered sometime over the last week. A fridge, stove and toilet were stolen from the trailer. Monday, July 31, sometime overnight, a high school on Mayfield Road was entered through a window. Five computer processing units and an overhead projector were stolen. Surveillance video will be viewed for suspects. Monday, July 31, a business on Highway 9 was entered by breaking of a window sometime last night. Three laptop computers were stolen from the building. Mischief Monday, July 31, a homeowner on St. Michael's Crescent in Bolton reports graffiti on her fence and tomato plants ripped from her garden. Monday, July 31, graffiti was reported to have caused damage to portables at an Allan Drive school. Tuesday, Aug. 3, a vehicle parked overnight at a Frank Johnston Road residence had the tires slashed and sugar had been poured into the gas tank. Tuesday, Aug. 3, sometime during the daytime hours, a rock was thrown through a skylight of a Sunkist Valley Road home in Bolton. Theft Monday, July 31, change and sunglasses were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked overnight at a Creditview Road address. Wednesday, Aug. 2, a purse was stolen from a vehicle left parked in a parking lot off Regional Road 50 north of Bolton. Friday, Aug. 4, a vehicle parked at a Filton Road address in Caledon East was entered sometime overnight. A palm pilot and a purse were stolen from within. Criminal Charges Thursday, Aug. 3, at approximately 12:50 am, Caledon OPP officers were advised to observe for a stolen vehicle that may be traveling towards Caledon from York Region. The vehicle was described as a blue Dodge pickup truck. A Caledon OPP officer, who was patrolling eastbound on Highway 9, west of Humber Station Road, observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle within minutes of the original broadcast. When a vehicle stop was attempted the suspect vehicle fled from police at a high rate of speed. The suspect vehicle continued to travel through roadways in Caledon and the townships of King and New Tecumseth. A spike belt was used to disable the vehicle at which time three OPP cruisers were utilized to block in the suspect vehicle and slowly bring it to a stopped position. The suspect was arrested on Highway 89, east of 15th Sideroad in the Township of New Tecumseth. The driver, 39-year-old Kevin Ruttan of no fixed address was charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police and three counts of Breach of Probation. He was held for a bail hearing Aug. 4. Caledon/Dufferin Victim Services Caledon OPP would like to extend its thanks to the support received from Caledon/Dufferin Victim Services during the incident involving two small planes crashing in the northwest area of Caledon Friday, Aug. 4. Caledon/Dufferin Victim Services volunteers were involved in assisting the many families, friends and/or co-workers of the three individuals who lost their lives in this crash. The volunteers and staff of Caledon/Dufferin Victim Services were able to provide assistance the day of the incident, as well as several days that followed. It was a very tragic situation that ultimately affected many people. The staff at Caledon/Dufferin Victim Services would be pleased to support any witnesses to last week's incident. Often there are tertiary victims who may not have been identified.
