Saturday June 3, the Rotary Club of Bolton held its 56th Changeover meeting at Caledon Woods Golf Club.
Every June, more than 32,000 Rotary clubs worldwide have a meeting where the outgoing president hands over the gavel to the new president and his incoming board of directors.
Outgoing president Craig Daniell and his board made tremendous progress on a number of projects that they inherited and/or initiated. Craig highlighted the accomplishments of the club during his term of office, namely the signing of the
agreement with the Town to build a new youth centre that will be attached to the Wellness Centre. This will give the Wellness Centre a full size gymnasium for the youth of the community, plus provide a permanent home for the Scouts and Girl Guides, which should be up and running early 2007.
The equipment to start up Project Lifesaver was purchased and donated to the Town to assist the police in locating people who suffer from dementia and autism.
Internationally, two water projects to supply potable drinking water, one in Haiti and one in Honduras, will be completed during the next twelve months.
Rotarian of the Year award was presented to Ross Gray, and Aldo Villanovich received the Bill Egan
Willing Worker award. Don MacPherson and Ross Gray were named Paul Harris Fellows for the second time.
The new president for 2006-07 is Scott Hurren and at age 25 is the youngest
president in the club's history. Scott and his board look forward to guiding the club in the coming Rotary year.
