New arena design presented to council
The preliminary designs for the new arena complex in Caledon East were presented to Caledon council last Tuesday and will be on display in the Town Hall lobby until this Friday for the public to look at.
Representatives from McDonald Brothers Construction Ltd. and Parkin Architects displayed the drawings for the arena which will be an addition to the Caledon Community Complex.
Paul McDonald of McDonald Brothers Construction Inc., said construction is slated for this August with occupancy by July 2007.
Linn Nymann of Parkin Architects explained an elevator will be added to the Caledon Community Complex and the entrance will be moved out.
He added the arena will have six change rooms, two referee rooms, a large concession area, public washrooms and will be handicap accessible. The seating in the arena will be on top of the dressing rooms.
Eriks Eglite, Caledon's director of recreation and property services, told council the proposal is a master plan, a what-could-happen scenario.
He added the plan can accommodate future additions, but right now they're just constructing the ice pad.
The drawings also showed a possible six-sheet curling arena and a possible indoor soccer facility plus a possible fitness centre.
Councillor Annette Groves asked if there's adequate parking.
Nymann replied they're showing 500 spaces.
Residents are invited to submit comments to a comment box in the Town Hall lobby or to the recreation and property services department until June 16.
