St. Patrick's Church in Wildfield opens its doors this weekend

Wildfield's St. Patrick Church will be one of 19 unique sites that will be open to the public June 10 and 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as part of Doors Open Brampton. The locations were chosen for their historical, architectural and/or cultural significance.

Established in the 1830s, Wildfield is one of the Peel Regions most historic hamlets. Centered at the intersection of Mayfield and Gore Roads, it is the home of St. Patrick's Church, the second oldest church in the Archdiocese of Toronto and the first Ontario church to be named St. Patrick. Many early settlers are buried in the church cemetery, along with Father Francis McSpiritt, a parish priest from 1887 to 1895 who is reputed to be a miracle worker.

Some of the other Doors Open Brampton locations include the Peel Heritage Complex, historic Bovaird House and St. Paul's United Church. The event is free and more information can be obtained by visiting www.doorsopenbrampton.ca.
