HB Racing shows well at mountain bike race
HB Racing Inc. had an excellent day at the first Ontario Cup mountain bike race of the year. The race, held at Mansfield Outdoor Centre, was extremely fast and enjoyable for all competitors. Above seasonal temperatures and lots of sunshine provided for a great day that saw many HC Racing Inc. and HB Cycling Club members perform extremely well. The race, which saw close to 820 competitors, was divided into categories based on age and ability. Each category was well represented with numerous HB Racing/Headwaters jerseys being seen all over the course.
In a highly competitive pro/elite category, Mike Garrigan impressed all with a 2nd place finish despite encountering some technical difficulties with his bike. Peter Glassford showed great form as he pushed his way to a 7th place finish, while Scott Holmes and Cam Jette had strong rides and represented well in this field.
Zach Gammage had one of his best rides as he managed to take 1st place in the sr. expert class. Usman Valiante, Brent Berger, Bolton's Peter Loney and Kate Sparling all put forth great efforts as they placed extremely well in their respective categories.
With an exciting new junior program, HB Cycling Club (HB Racing's club affiliate) was also well represented,
especially in the junior ranks. Deanna Booten and Bolton's Stuart Loney lead the way with top 10 finishes in their categories, while all others all put forth strong rides to kick off the mountain bike season.
In partnership with Headwaters Health Care Centre, HB Racing is raising funds for the purchase of new medical equipment, to support HB Racing's race efforts and promote cycling in the Headwaters Region.
