Everyone loves a mystery

The 3rd annual Bolton History Mystery Contest

In the year 1818 that handy pioneering man, James Bolton left Norfolk England of the old world for Canada of the new world. By 1819 he was homesteading within 5 kilometres of the present Village of Bolton. Fifty-three years later (1872) the village separated from the township of Albion and became an incorporated village.

The history of our town is rich and interesting. To help you learn more about your home town and to introduce you to the friendly merchants of Bolton, organizers invite you to participate in the 3rd annual Family Fun History Mystery Contest.

Walk the Great Wall of China; search Solomon's Temple; raft the mighty Amazon River and you won't find the mystery location. But look in your own backyard and your chances are good that you will find what you seek. Somewhere within Bolton's borders organizers have chosen a spot with historic significance. Identify it and if your entry is drawn and correctly completed, you will win one of these fabulous prizes: A Napoleon barbecue, a

patio set, a portable MP3 player, and gift certificates from many of our participating retailers.

Pick up an entry form from any one of your friendly participating home town merchants beginning May 15. Then begin discovering Bolton's shops and history. No purchase necessary. Pick up clues from the locations listed on the History Mystery passport and be sure to collect the location stamps. This year the town has been divided into three sectors. You must visit 10 locations in each sector for a total of 30 visits. Check this newspaper on May 24, 31 and June 7 for a bonus clue. Additionally, go to www.caledonclassifieds. com for yet another bonus clue. Return your completed entry to the Albion-Bolton Branch of the Caledon Public Library and deposit it in the contest box. Entries must be received no later than Sunday, June 11 at 4 p.m. (library closing time). Winners will be notified by telephone.

This is not a race. You have four weeks to collect the clues and required stamps. Enjoy solving the clues with your family. Follow the green footprints and look for in-store displays.

Family fun, a chance to learn more about your town's history and perhaps win a fabulous prize, awaits the intrepid explorer who can unravel the clues and identify the History Mystery location. The friendly merchants of Bolton listed below, await you.
