Photo by Jon Yaneff The second annual Caledon Girls Hockey threeon three tournament was a success for the six teams who participated Sunday at Caledon East Arena. It ran from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The teams were divided in colours with white, blue, yellow, pink, green and orange shirts given to the six novice/atom/peewee teams. In the end, it was the yellow team beating the green team 8-1 in the championship final. The white team also beat the blue team 3-0 in consolation final 1 and the orange team beat the pink team 3-2 in consolation final 2. Four goalies, Alex Mendosa, Victoria Colp, Meagan MacLean and Allison French, played for the six teams during different times in the tournament. For the second straight year, Mayor Marolyn Morrison presented gold and silver medals to the teams at the end of the tournament.

There are currently 50 kids involved with the organization, which was founded three years ago by current Caledon Girls Hockey President Bob Simmons. The Town of Caledon originally gave a $2,500 grant to help the league with expenses. Aside from the novice, atom and peewee levels, there are bantam and midget players involved in the league as well. With the twin pad at the Caledon East Arena next year, the girls’ league will be able to have games and practices every week for a full house league.

“This really sparked the enthusiasm for next year,” said event coordinator Robert Coulombe.
